I wanted to create some creature sketches and came across an interesting technique for generating reference and ideas. Using (I believe) Google's artificial neural network project DeepDream, Alexander Reben created a wild video that recreates a clip of Bob Ross using millions of photos.
The result is crazy to look at, but also a wealth of unexpected inspiration. Pausing the video at any frame reveals strange creatures formed from multiple photos being spliced together by the neural network. So, watch the video, stop at a random point, and draw what you see. It's a fun way to break out of the routine.
